Learning Extensions

  • Each child is coming home with books at their level.Children should continue reading while they are at home!Please record your child’s reading in their reading log.
  • Children in grades 1-5 also have a copy of their fiction and non-fiction summary rubrics.
  • Please ask your child to summarize what they read after they’ve read it.Use the rubric to make sure that each component of an effective summary is included. Readers can summarize a whole text, a part of text, or a paragraph.
  • Grades K-5 have questions that families can ask students when they finish reading a book, a chapter, or a page.The comprehension questions are included in a packet with a list of online websites for students, at home activities, and math resources.
  • Please select your child’s grade level to see the comprehension questions based on grade level expectations.
